Beth Levine Designs provides Freelance Graphic Design Services. Originally from the NJ/NY area, I now live in Taos, NM. I still maintain some of my NY clients.  Telecommuting is not a problem. I find with e-mail, the web, PDF files, phone calls, it is seamless to work with clients from all over the country

I have been working in the Graphic Design field for over 30 years, doing both Print and Web work.

  • Website work: WordPress Websites using several forms of WordPress platforms and templates. StudioPress, Classic Editor, Guttenberg and Blocksy themes. I work closely with the client to assess their goals and needs for the website. I then explore the look and fit of the theme to work with. The theme acts as a framework and then I customize the look adding images, logos, slideshows, colors and some CSS.
  • Custom Websites: Having your website look good on all platforms: large screens, tablets and phones, Responsive Web Design (RWD) started around 2010. Around this time, I worked on custom built websites. I Designed the look in programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and DreamWeaver and then worked with a programmer to translate the design into a working website. The programmer used MySQL and PHP to create a database driven website with (Responsive Web Design) RWD. View my Custom Website Designs here. Now that website builders like WordPress manage the RWD, have effective Content Management Systems and a variety of templates, I find that I like working this way instead of trying to “recreate the wheel” by creating a custom website. Instead of spending a lot of money on a programmer, I can still create a custom-like-look working with images, slideshows and design but still use the theme’s templates. I have been working this way for a few years now.
  • Print work: Corporate Identity: Logo Development, Business Cards & Other Marketing Materials, Newsletters & Magazine Design & Layout.
  • Publishing: Self Publishing Company: Levine Mesa Press. I act as a Designer and Project Manager working directly with the author to turn their manuscript into a printed book or eBook. I offer both Cover and Interior Designs. My publishing partner works on the production of the book and technical eBook creation after I create the look and styles.
  • Traditional & Self-Publishing. I design: Hardcover, Jacketed Hardcover, Paperback, and eBooks. Books can either be printed through Offset or Print-On-Demand. Print-On-Demand books can be listed on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com. Services provided as needed: Proofreading, Copy Editing, Cover & Interior Designs, Websites and More.

Education: SUNY Purchase, B.F.A. with a major in Design, 1990.

Experience:

First full time graphic design job after college was with a division of Young & Rubicam, the Advertising firm, in NYC. I designed slides for presentations.

Next, as a Book Cover Designer for a College Press, M.E. Sharpe in Armonk, NY for 7 years, I designed book covers for all of the divisions. Working directly with the managers of those divisions. This mainly included: Asian Studies, Economics, and Russian Studies.

I then moved onto Freelance Graphic Design work where I was able to gain experience in many other areas. Medical Publishing, Corporate Identity, Advertising, Package Design, Greeting cards, Broadway shows and Magazine Design. After gaining enough experience and confidence, I then created my own business.

I have worked with other: Graphic Design Freelancers/Illustrators, Programmers, and Web Developers.  Working with other skilled people has allowed me to give my clients more options. For example, a Freelance Illustrator helped create a hand painted image for the cover of a book.
An online Illustrator created the illustrations for a children’s book. A skilled Web Developer helped create a Custom Database Driven Website with Responsive Web Design and Administrative Access. WordPress now allows me to do a lot of website projects without the need to hire a web developer. It also gives the clients the ability to update the page text of their sites themselves.

I also sometimes maintain Websites that have already been previously designed, but need some regular updates and maintenance.

In 2010 I co-founded a self publishing company Levine Mesa Press with my publishing partner. Helping authors publish their books. Kind of a “full circle” back to my publishing days. I design the book covers and interiors, working with the authors directly on their designs. I also work with proofreaders, copy writers, and illustrators. Books can be print-on-demand and listed on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Some authors choose to use offset printing and print a specific amount of books. I work with offset printers, copy writers, proof the materials, and provide general support.
